DOLCE MANIERA

DOLCE MANIERA

Via Barletta 27; Open 24 Hours Daily

This hidden 24-hour bakery hosts a wide variety of baked goods – from frosted cookies to decadent cakes. We recommend dropping in for a coffeeand a classic “cornetto”, the Italian take on a croissant, which is a staple breakfast item in Rome. You’ll have to keep your eyes peeled for it, as there’s no sign out front.

FORNO FELIZIANI

FORNO FELIZIANI

Via Candia 61; Mon-Sat 7:30am-8:30pm; Sun 7:30am-3:30pm

This family-run “forno”, which literally translates to “oven”, has something for everyone at any time of day. Mornings offer a wide selection of breakfast pastries and coffee, while savory pastas, pizzas, fried snacks, and meat dishes are set up cafeteria style during lunch hours. They even do “happy hour” in the evenings!

THE LOFT

THE LOFT

Vie Leone IV 34; Mon-Sat 9am-10pm; Sun 7am-10pm

While The Loft is only a few months old, it’s gaining a reputation fast! They offer American-Style breakfast and a nice variety of fresh juices, but we recommend checking out their selection of cured meats and sandwiches. Try a classic “porchetta panino” (or “pork sandwich“) for a true Italian option!

TRAPIZZINO (BE.RE.)

TRAPIZZINO (BE.RE)

For a fresh take on typical Italian cuisine, make your way to Trapizzino to try one of their scrumptious triangular bread pockets with your choice of slow-cooked and flavorful filling. Choices include pork cheekchicken cacciatoremeatballs, and even vegetarian options! The savoury concoctions are slow-cooked and kept on heaters so these yummy treats are ready within minutes of ordering. They’re convenient to take away, or you can dine in and even grab a local beer from the conjoined “Be.Re.” beer bar!

With fresh ingredients and huge menu of creative combinations you’re bound to find something you’ll love! While they do offer vegetarian and vegan options, we’re in love with the magical combinations of prosciutto & fig or bresaola (cured beef) & parmesan, which we find to be super unique and tasty!

PASTA & SUGO

PASTA & SUGO

For a quick taste of Italy, hop into Pasta & Sugo, where you pick your homemade pasta and add one of the savory sauce options. Choose from classics like tomato and basilgarlic pesto, and creamy mushroom. Your to-go dishes will be filled within minutes of ordering – making this shop a perfect stop for those looking for snack.

ALICE

ALICE

Via delle Grazie 7/9; Hours Vary

While the website lists daily opening hours from 9am to 9pm, we’ve noticed that that’s not usually the case at Alice (pronounced ah-lee-chay). But, honestly, the pizza is so good that we don’t mind crossing our fingers and hoping to arrive in time to get a slice! Your best bet is to pop in between 12pm-2pm to sample the pizza-by-the-slice that the locals eat. Some of our favorites include cheesy pasta inspired toppings like “Cacio e Pepe” and “Carbonara”. There’s no indoor seating, so plan to snack curbside or on the go.

PASTACIUTTA

PASTACIUTTA

Via delle Grazie 5; Mon-Sat 10:30-6:30pm; Sun 10:30-6pm

This hole-in-the-wall turned pasta factory is located just steps from St Peter’s Square and is a super convenient stop for a casual bite to eat. What’s on the menu? Homemade pasta, made right before your eyes and ready to eat within minutes of ordering. A handful of flavors are available, but we highly recommend the typical Roman “Cacio e Pepe” made with Parmesan cheese and black pepper – it’s simply delicious!

TOMMI’S BURGER JOINT

TOMMI’S BURGER JOINT

Viale Giulio Cesare 193/195; Open Daily, 11:30am-10:30pm

When you’re traveling and trying new things, sometimes you just want a plain old-fashioned burger – and we totally understand the feeling! Tommi’s Burger Joint cooks up classic hamburgers and cheeseburgers (and even veggie burgers!) that are undeniably delicious. They’re served plain, but their toppings bar hosts additional fixings like jalapeños, fried onions, and a variety of sauces. And, to top it off, you can even opt for a side of sweet potato fries!

& FOR SOMETHING SWEET…

LEMONGRASS

LEMONGRASS

Via Barletta 1 or Via Ottaviano 29; Sun-Thurs 7am-11pm; Fri-Sat 7am-12am

Lemongrass keeps in line with authentic Italian gelato by using fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients in their ice cream. They dish out delicious classics, like the rich and creamy pistachio, in addition to some more unique concoctions like their namesake lemongrass flavor, which consists of a tasty mix of lemon cream, white chocolate, and cereal pralines. They’ve also got a nice variety of frozen yogurtmuffins, and cakes – a perfect fix for any sweet tooth!

FATAMORGANA

FATAMORGANA

Via Leone IV, 50; Open Daily 12pm-10pm

For a totally unprecedented take on ice cream, check out Fatamorgana. The ice cream chain is making a big bang in the city with their all-natural flavors and their special dietary choices – including some gluten-free and even vegan options! The price is low and deliciousness is high. Some of our favorite funky flavors include Rose with Black Rice, Chocolate and Tobacco, Carrot Cake, and Peach Wine. Yum!

POMPI

POMPI

Via Cola di Rienzo 313; Sun-Thurs 9am-10:30; Fri-Sat 9am-12:30am

Tiramisu like none you’ve had before. Pompi is a trusted name in Italy when it comes to the classic dessert. The only downside is having to choose which flavor you want! Pistachio, strawberry, and banana are amongst your choices for a new take on tiramisu or, of course, you can stick with the classic coffee base. If you’re still not convinced about the tiramisu, you can opt with one of their decadent ice cream cones instead.
