Historic highlights include the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon & Piazza Navona with a Rome expert who has all the details

Take a break from your ocean journey and embark on an enlightening 9-hour shore excursion with What a Life Tours! We’ve curated an itinerary to help you get the most out of your day in Rome but, as this is a private tour, we’re always happy to tailor our plans to fit you and your loved ones. Climb on into your air-conditioned deluxe vehicle and relax your feet while your personal driver takes the helm. Begin to discover Rome from the moment you meet your friendly tour guide, a member of our handpicked five-star team, who will spend the day filling you in on everything you’ve ever wanted to know about the Eternal City. You’ll have a full day to quiz your private guide about the insider secrets of Rome, including suggestions on where to grab a bite to eat. Lunch is not included in the tour, but we can certainly steer you in the right direction!

Gather at Piazza della Rotonda in the shadow of the 2nd century Pantheon, the ancient Pagan temple that currently functions as a Christian church. Discover the highly advanced techniques that the Ancient Romans used when they constructed what remains to be the largest unsupported dome in the world and learn about the centuries of history that have unraveled on its premises. Wander through the modern metropolis past Renaissance palaces and Baroque fountains, making special stops at Piazza Navona and Rome’s iconic Trevi Fountain. This is your chance to capture that postcard-perfect picture and toss some coins inside – if you’re keen on the legends!

Gaze upon masterpieces by world-renowned artists and make a beeline to the best of the Vatican Museums & St. Peter’s Basilica

While visitors often queue up for hours to catch a glimpse of the Vatican Museums, we know that your time is valuable – so we organize everything in advance. Let us handle the tickets and whisk you straight past the lines to explore the fifth-largest art museum in the world. With over 20,000 works on display, one can easily feel overwhelmed at the prospect of covering it all. In actuality, it would take days to properly admire every single thing! Fortunately, your Rome expert knows all the ins and outs of the Vatican and can take you straight to the most impressive gems – so you can forget about navigating and truly absorb the beauty of the art-filled galleries and the Sistine Chapel!

As our Vatican adventure comes to an end, a new chapter begins in St. Peter’s Basilica. Stand in awe of the holiest of all Catholic shrines, regardless of your beliefs, as marble walls tower nearly 450 feet above you. Gold-painted trim, marble-patterned floors, and angelic sculptures orchestrate the unparalleled ambiance of the church, which houses some of the world’s most iconic artworks. Get the inside scoop about Michelangelo breaking into the church and Bernini’s artistic rivalry as you admire the famous sculpture of “La Pietà” and the bronze Baldachin, which stands tall above the main altar – all before venturing out into St. Peter’s Square!

Skip the lines and walk in the footsteps of Ancient Roman Emperors & Gladiators inside the Colosseum and Roman Forum

Step inside the zenith of Roman architecture and engineering and relish the great civilization that once ruled the world. The Flavian amphitheater, as it was originally known, once had the capacity to host 50,000 spectators at a time and now, 2,000 years later, it sees up to 6 million visitors per year. Built under the command of the Flavian dynasty, the entertainment arena was famously used to amuse and appease the masses. The hypogeum, the underground area beneath the stage floor, housed prison cells for slaves and exotic animals that were hoisted up to the crowds via highly advanced pulley systems and trap doors. Regardless of the gruesome and, what many consider to be, unethical battles that took place within its Travertine walls, the Colosseum is widely regarded as one of the world’s most impressive wonders – and you’ll see why!

Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the Colosseum we’ll explore the very cradle of Rome, where Romulus and Remus founded the city millennia ago, in the Roman Forum. Stroll through the remains of Domitian’s Palace on Palatine Hill and roam the ruins of ancient temples, basilicas, and victory arches in the valley below. We’ll step into the Temple of Julius Caesar, inside of which the dictator’s grave is frequently covered with flowers, and admire the marble plaque that hangs on the wall outside honoring him as a deity. There is no better place in the world to ponder the greatness of the Roman Empire.

Best experience!

★★★★★
Our tour of “Rome In A Day” was beyond pleasant and not hurried in any way. Maria our tour guide was attentive and a wealth of knowledge not just about the history of each visit but her knowledge of Art History proved to be an added bonus. Maria went at our pace and was thoughtful of our needs and wants regarding the day and the tour. She had a professional manner and got us through all the lines quickly and skipping the wait time where it was appropriate. Maria gave us trivia about each site visited you wouldn’t find in a normal tour. My sister had been to these places before on other tours and said this was the best tour by far for she was able to make every site interesting and you learned so much about history you do not read about in books. Maria knew the best places to take pictures or get a better perspective of what we were touring. What A Life Tours are first class and easy to arrange your day and tours. They were accessible and available to answer my questions. I highly recommend them and Maria when in Rome!

My wife and I can not begin to express our gratitude to Marcello and What a Life Tours for making our day in Rome so special. Marcello was great and is obviously very passionate about his job and the history of Rome. We were so very impressed and would recommend him to any of your future customers. We also were very impressed with our driver Valentino. What a Life Tours definitely has a good thing going and clearly has to be the best tour group in Rome. Thank you!

A Magical Experience!

★★★★★
I explained to our coordinator Pips that we wanted to see Rome through the eyes of a Roman. WOW...did she deliver on our request! She matched us up with our guide Beatrice and we saw parts of Rome I would never have thought of. Places like the spot where Julius Caesar was murdered, the Jewish Ghetto, and such. Beatrice explained every day life in Rome, and what living in Rome is like. Beatrice should be sought out for your tour. I know we'll be sure to ask for her when we return. Thank you Pips for your help in arranging this great experience. Thank you Beatrice for your kindness, and thank you What a Life Tours for providing us the opportunity to see Rome from a totally different perspective.

Driving tour is tops!

★★★★★
We requested an evening driving tour as we only had 1 night in Rome. We started at 7 PM and finished at 10 PM. Carl was our guide and he was fantastic! He asked us what kind of sights we really wanted, so it was tailor-made, with perfect last-minute logistics. We accomplished A LOT in 3 hours with our amazing driver. This tour included a lot of stops so that we could get out of the car, snap photos, etc. It was spot on!! It's a HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
