Explore the Ruins of Pompeii the Lost City
Your private driver will pick you up from your hotel to start the 3-hour drive to your first destination the lost city of Pompeii. For over 1,500 years, this fabled city lay buried and forgotten under 30 feet of volcanic ash and debris until it was rediscovered in the late 16th century by Italian architect Domenico Fontana. Archeologists have been digging here for two and a half centuries, exposing the near-perfectly preserved settlement below. Pompeii provides a detailed photograph of how ancient Romans went about their daily routines, as well as how their lives ended.
You can explore the excavations on your own or enhance your visit with a 2-hour private tour led by a Pompeii expert, just check the box at checkout. In either case, we’re sure you will be fascinated by the artefacts left behind by the 20,000 people who once inhabited this port city. Stroll down the same stone streets where ancient Pompeiians once walked and peek into the temples, theaters, restaurants and homes where they spent their days. Naturally, you’ll also see the plaster casts of the tragedy’s ill-fated victims.
Positano, Limoncello & the Amalfi Coast
After Pompeii, we’ll continue south towards the Amalfi Coast. Your first encounter with this spectacular stretch of coastline will be a view over the beautiful bay of Sorrento. Enjoy the vistas while you sample the region’s specialty – limoncello. This refreshing, sun-colored lemon liqueur is a staple for Italians throughout the summer months and you will find the best quality produce here. As your drive along the scenic route continues, we will make several stops along the way so that you can soak up the incredible panoramas and snap some great pictures to remember it all by.
Though you’ve probably already swooned over Positano in countless movies and on postcards, nothing could prepare you for seeing it for real. The sight of its pastel colored houses clinging on to the hillside and climbing down towards the glittering sea below leaves no mystery as to why this town has captured the attention of poets, photographers and screen writers throughout the centuries. You‘ll have a couple hours of free time to roam the exclusive shops and local art galleries along the winding allies. You can also enjoy a divine seafood lunch at one of the local restaurants (not included) before we return to Rome.
