What you’ll See Along the Way

Tour the Countryside With a Private Driver

There is no better way to see the gorgeous Tuscan countryside than in a luxurious vehicle with a local English-speaking driver guide. As you are driven to your next dreamy destination, your driver will point out all of the amazing sights along the way and provide you with a history lesson about this stunning Italian region. Transportation in Tuscany doesn't get much better than this!

Siena Cathedral

You will surely be in awe at the beauty of the iconic Siena Cathedral. This duomo was completed in the 13th century and boasts gorgeous artistic masterpieces including a lantern designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini that tops the star-studded dome, colorful stained-glass windows, and over 200 busts of famous popes and emperors. The most striking feature of this church is the alternating striped slabs of black and white marble that cover the walls and columns. You have to see this magnificent cathedral at least once in your life so we can't wait to be the ones to show it to you!

Piazza del Campo

Piazza del Campo is undeniably the heart of Siena and we will take you straight to it! This medieval square is famous for being the location of the famous Pailo di Siena, a series of horse races that occur during the summer months in the city. Besides being known for its age-old tradition of holding horse races, the piazza is also home to Palazzo Pubblico, the Tower of Mangia, and the Gaia fountain.

Farmhouse Lunch & White Wine Tasting

Now for everyone's favorite part of the day- the food! After exploring the gorgeous city of Siena you will have time to relax and catch your breath as you sit down for lunch at a beautiful Tuscan farmhouse. This unforgettable meal will consist of homemade pasta, locally grown produce, and seasonal specialities of the region. Yum! Tuscany is also famous for its vineyards and delectable grapes. Thus, a trip to this region would not be complete without a tasting of the regions most famous wines! During your journey through the rolling hills of Tuscany you will stop to enjoy a tasting of locally produced white wines in a setting that is picture-perfect. If you find a wine you love, don't forget to grab a bottle or two to take back home with you!

Shop in San Gimigano

Another one of the most memorable moments on this tour will be exploring the medieval streets of San Gimignano, the famous town known for its many tall towers. As you wander through the picturesque city, you'll have time to look in its adorable boutique shops and unqiue specialty stores. If you haven't already picked up souvenirs along the way, this will be the perfect time to do so!

Tour Summary Get in the Know

The Perfect Day in Tuscany Beyond Florence

Florence is an obvious stop on any trip to Italy, but amazingly few people stray from the herd to discover one of Europe’s most beautiful regions, Tuscany. We put the same pride and passion that has won us the number 1 rating for Vatican Tours into our private Siena day trip from Florence adding luxury features like a farm lunch with the best of Tuscan cuisine, and a visit to San Gimignano to come full circle on the rich patrimony of this territory. All with door-to-door service from a private English-speaking driver to lead you on this journey of discovery.

From Florence to Siena A Beneficial Rivalry

Siena is the most important center for art in Tuscany after Florence, and its charming streets are awash with its colorful yet sometimes dramatic history. In the Middle Ages Siena and Florence were bitter rivals leading to the creation of some of the most incredible feats of art and architecture humanity has ever seen, all in an effort to outdo one another.

This is most evident in Siena Cathedral, or the Duomo, arguably the most spectacular major church in all of Italy. Built between 1196 and 1348 it is actually the only completed part of a project to construct the largest cathedral in Christendom. Its black and white marble and frescoed interior are a symphony to the eyes, and you’ll be able to see works by Michelangelo, and Bernini as well as a host of Tuscan painters and sculptors.

Another place that absolutely cannot be missed is Piazza del Campo, again one of the most iconic on the Italian Peninsula. Dominated by the incredibly high Torre del Mangia and crowned by the Fonte Gaia fountain, this amphitheater-like dipping piazza is still the center of daily life for the city’s inhabitants. It is also home to the famous Palio horse race every summer. Soak in the history from your driver before exploring on your own or book a private guide to uncover its every facet.

Tuscan Style Farm Lunch Then San Gimignano

After your morning in Siena, we’ll take you into the heart of Tuscany’s evocative landscape for a farm lunch, where you’ll delight in the best of local culinary traditions, not to mention the areas winemaking. Savor the region’s pecorino sheep’s milk cheeses, locally produced cured meats, and of course handmade kinds of pasta that you can only eat here, accompanied by a tasting of wines produced from the ground you are standing on including San Gimignano and Chianti. You’ll also be able to tour the grounds and relax before the second leg of the tour.

Once lunch is a pleasant memory, you’ll be off to visit the day’s second Medieval gem, the hill town of San Gimignano. As its 13 stone towers and winding cobbled streets attest, this is truly like stepping into a time machine and setting the dial to the year 1300. Known as the Manhattan of the Middle Ages the city was once domineered by some 72 towers showing the power of the city’s affluent. It is the perfect place for an afternoon walk and you’ll be able to discover spots like Piazza della Cisterna with its original well, as well as visit Collegiata Church with its vivid frescos of the Last Judgment.
