Colosseum Tour: VIP Access to Underground and Top Tier
The Colosseum is the very symbol of Rome and a must-see for anyone coming to the Eternal City. Now you can explore even more by visiting areas typically closed to the general public.
We will start the journey by by passing the dauntingly long line of the Colosseum and admire its grandeur from inside, before heading below ground to explore the Colosseum’s chambers and tunnels. A portion of the Colosseum that only a select few get to visit each day. While you walk through the underground passageways, you'll learn of the history that took place there. See where the animals would wait to be elevatored to the roaring crowds above. Next you too will head up to the arena floor and stand where Gladiators once stood, fighting to the death.
Then continue up to the Colosseum’s upper third level, where you will witness spectacular panoramic views over the arena and surrounding areas. Another unique perspective that isn't available to the general public. An experience to remember for the rest of your life!
Exiting the Colosseum you will continue over to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Your passionate tour guide will bring the ancient ruins to life and let you experience firsthand what it was like to live here during the height of the Roman Empire. Let your imagination run wild and it is suddenly easy imagine that mythical characters like Caesar, Mark Anthony and Cleopatra walked these same cobble-stoned streets some 2000 years ago.

Our groups sizes are a maximum of 12 people. However due to the popularity of this tour, we sometimes run 2 groups at the same time. This means that whilst exploring the special access areas of the Colosseum, we may have up to a maximum of 24 people exploring these special access areas. During this time and by strict rule of the Colosseum, only 1 of our guides may speak.
Admission and reservation fees are included in the listed price.
Details on the meeting point and meeting time will be provided upon booking.
The Colosseum is sometimes subject to unforeseen closures, due to strikes, demonstrations, mass events or in the unlikely event of severe weather conditions, the underground portion of the tour may be cancelled, due to the danger of flooding. In order to communicate such changes to you as quick as possible, please provide us with a contact number while travelling. And we will do our very best to accomodate when possible, however such closures are out of our control.
For security reasons it is strictly forbidden to enter the Colosseum and Roman Forum with backpacks, suitcases, trolleys and large bags/objects. Please be aware that lockers are NOT available at the above mentioned sites.
This tour involves walking on uneven surfaces and we therefore recommend wearing comfortable shoes for your own safety.
Given the age of the ancient Roman ruins, the tracks are neither wheelchair nor stroller friendly, as well as difficult to handle for those with limited mobility. In such cases, we strongly recommend booking a Private Tour as the guide will be able to adjust the itinerary to your needs.
If you are in possession of a Roma Pass, please inform us at the time of making your reservation. Customers, who have used their Roma Pass, will be refunded for the ticket price after the tour.
