Guide to “Getting your Veggie on” in The Eternal City
Getting your Veggie
The land of pizza, pasta, and Parmesan cheese is certainly not the easiest for a travelling vegan (or raw vegan) to navigate. While typical dishes and traditional plates demand fresh, local, and seasonal produce, they scarcely lack additions of meat and dairy. With celebrities and health enthusiasts shouting about the lifestyle from their pedestals, veganism is predicted to be one of the largest growing trends of 2018 – so we thought we’d help you guys out with a basic guide for where to grab a bite in The Eternal City.

ROMEOWCAT BISTROT
ROMEOWCAT BISTROT
Via Francesco Negri 15, 0657289203
Wed-Sun 11am-11:30pm
This fun and quirky bistrot is the home of 6 fantastic furry felines who lounge around and accept gentle head scratches from all the guests. IT IS AWESOME. The décor is really nifty and the place, as many haters would doubt, is incredibly clean. But, aside from all that, the food selection is international and diverse, which could come as a welcome surprise even to carnivores. The ever-changing, always-seasonal menu sometimes includes things like Pad Thai, Dahl with ginger sauce, pumpkin soup, and more – and they are all divine! Reservations are obligatory and you must plan on eating to reserve a spot during lunch and dinner hours.

Run by a young Italian couple that has been working the vegan scene in Rome for over a decade, this place serves top-notch vegan variety with a bit of quirk. The atmosphere is bright, casual, and friendly and the food – ranging from hummus to gnocchi to burritos – is delicious! Funky names like “Not your grandmother’s meatballs” give it yet another unique touch. Located off the beaten path in Pigneto, known as the “Brooklyn of Rome”, a venture to “So What?!?” also offers a look at a more authentic part of the city.
